Ahead of OnePlus 3 June 14 virtual launch event, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has made the most exciting announcement for OnePlus 3 prospective buyers. With the OnePlus 3, the company is ditching the invite system model and will be made available via open sales. Pei said that OnePlus is ditching the invite system altogether, and won't introduce it for its future products as well. This means you'll no longer have register for an invite and wait for it to get OnePlus devices.
Pei in a forum post stated that the invite system was necessary when OnePlus started, since it would be able to scale according to the demand. However now the company has reached a position where it can ensure that the OnePlus is available for purchase without invites on the launch day itself.
Whether the company has stocked enough OnePlus 3 units to meet the demand is yet to be seen.
The OnePlus 3 virtual launch event will take place on June 14 and begins 10pm IST and OnePlus will be live streaming the event on OnePlus 3: The Loop Android app which is available for download on Google Play. To view the live event on the app, you'll have to use the Loop VR headset which will be available for purchase on Amazon India on June 3 and June 7 for Re.1 (plus shipping charges).
Post the launch, the OnePlus 3 will be available for purchase for the first two hours via The Loop app, which OnePlus claims to be the "world's first global VR shopping experience". The phone will go on sale again via OnePlus website from 12:30am IST on June 15.
Coming to OnePlus 3 specification, the new flagship killer is expected to come with full metal body, 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, Snapdragon 820 SoC w/ Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB/6GB RAM (variants), 64GB storage, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C, 3000mAh battery and run Oxygen OS based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
