It's official and rumors were indeed true. Motorola (owned by Lenovo) has officially taken the wraps of its new Moto Z series, dropping the 'X' branding. The first two members of the new Moto Z series are the Moto Z and Moto Z Force.
The unique feature of the new Moto Z series smartphones is that they support modular accessories called Moto Mods which includes a Insta-Share Projector, JBL SoundBoost, Moto Shells, and instant Power Pack. These mods can be attached to the Moto Z via high powered magnets at the rear.
The Moto Z is made from military aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel and measures just 5.2mm. It has water repellent nano coating that keeps it safe from rains and splashes. There's a fingerprint scanner on the front just like the Moto G4 Plus. The phone also ditches 3.5mm jack in favor of USB Type-C port to connect headphones. Lenovo is bundling a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter with the Moto Z series.
As for the specs the Moto Z comes with 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels Quad HD AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass display and is equipped with 2.2GHz Snapdragon 820 processor w/ Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB inbuilt expandable storage. The camera department rocks a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, OIS, Laser Autofocus, 1.12um pixel and f/1.8 aperture. For clicking selfies and video calling you get a 5-megapixel front camera. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE (Cat9), 3G, WiFiac w/ MIMO, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2. It is fueled by 2600mAh battery.
The Moto Z Force is a Rocky Balboa version of Moto Z. The phone boasts second-gen Moto ShatterShield technology for its screen making it indestructible, just like the Moto X Force to withstand tough impacts. It packs the same design and specifications as the Moto Z, but ups the game with the camera and battery. The Moto Z Force comes with 3500mAh battery with TurboPower charging. It offers up to 40 hours of battery, and thanks to turbo charging, the phone can provide up to 15 hours of battery life with a 15-minute charging. It gets 21-megapixel rear camera that features Laser AF, OIS and PDAF.
The Moto Z and Moto Z Force will be available in September along with Moto Mods accessories. In the U.S the phones will release on Verizon as Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid. Unfortunately the pricing is not known.
