Apple will bring major changes to its App store that will be announced at Apple's WWDC keynote on June 13. Apple is working to improve various aspects of the App store including app review experince, discovery process, subscription and more. In an interview with The Verge, Apple'ssenior VP of worldwide marketing, Phil Sciller detailed these tweaks and improvements to the App Store.
First up, there is good news for app developers, as Apple will soon alter its revenue sharing model for apps. Currently, Apple takes 30 percent from sale for app subscriptions, and 70 percent remain with the developers. The new model will see, Apple's cut drop down to 15 percent, which developer will get 85 percent, given that a customer has maintained subscription with a developer for more than a year.
The option to sell subscriptions will also be available to all developers instead of just few apps, and will now include games as well. Developers will also get to choose 'one of over 200 subscription price points' and will be able to price their app depending on region. Developers will also be able to advertise their apps in search results.
Apple is also tweaking the process of app reviewing time before it hits the App Store, in order to publish the apps more quickly. Apple is now reviewing 50 percent of apps in 24 hours and 90 percent in 48 hours.
The App Store revamp will also improve app discovery. The 'Featured' section of App Store will filter apps you've already installed on you iOS device. This will allow users to see only new apps present in the store. Furthermore Apple is bringing back Categories tab on App Store, for better browsing of apps.
